University of Delaware Hockey offers the area's most complete player development pathway—from first-time skaters through Learn to Play Hockey, Cross-Ice and In-House leagues, and ultimately travel hockey. Our structure, experienced instructors, and low coach-to-player ratios help players build hockey skills at every stage of development. The links below will help you explore the hockey options at the University of Delaware Ice Arenas.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEY
The Learn to Play Hockey program is designed to be the first step teaching the basic hockey skills with 4 levels to progress through. Each level is designed to prepare players for in-house or travel league play. The small teacher to student ratios guarantees all players receive adequate attention. There are 6 sessions held throughout the year:
Fall 2026: Fall 1 (Sept. – Oct.) & Fall 2 (Nov. – Dec.)
Winter 2027: Winter 1 (Jan. - Feb.) & Winter 2 (Mar. – Apr.)
Spring 2027: (Apr. – May)
Summer 2027: (June – July)
CAMPS
The 2027 University of Delaware Summer Hockey Camp will be tentatively held July 26-July 30, 2027.
Youth & Adult Hockey Leagues Information and Travel Ice Hockey Program
CROSS ICE HOCKEY AND IN-HOUSE HOCKEY LEAGUE
Upon graduating from the Learn to Play program, the University of Delaware host two in-house hockey programs:
Cross Ice Hockey: Designed for players 9 and under and provides fast results in a fun environment. Cross ice hockey is a system whereby skaters play the game on one half of the ice rather than the full length, allowing for faster game play.
In-House Hockey: Designed for players ages 10 to 14. This league is a great way to have fun while further developing hockey skills. The In-House League provides players quality full-ice game experience without the expense and time commitment of travel.
3 sessions are held throughout the year:
Fall Season (September-December), Winter Season (January-March) and Summer Season (June-August)
3V3 LEAGUES
Spring 2027 League information will be available in February 2027. Season runs March through early June.
YOUTH TRAVEL HOCKEY
Junior Blue Hen Travel Teams are fielded for USA Hockey Mites through Midgets age levels. The teams compete in the Delaware Valley Hockey League, which is a well qualified organization comprised of teams from Delaware and Pennsylvania that competes from September through March.
ADULT HOCKEY LEAGUE
The University of Delaware offers adult hockey leagues at the Tier I and Tier II levels for three seasons. The Fall/Winter season (September-March) consists of 20 regular season games plus playoffs. The Spring season (April-June) consists of 8 regular season games plus playoffs. The Summer season (June-August) consists of 8 regular season games plus playoffs. Guest & Player Behavioral Guidelines:
We are committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience at the ice arena for all guests and players. Guests and/or players exhibiting inappropriate behavior (i.e. using foul or abusive language, making abusive gestures, or appearing intoxicated) are subject to ejection from the arena. Repeat offenses will result in the loss of arena privileges, including teams not being able to use the arena. If you observe a problem, please contact an arena staff member or public safety officer immediately. To assist with this endeavor, guests and players are asked to abide by the following Behavioral Guidelines:
-
Guests should not take any action that inhibits the progress of any game or event.
-
Guests and players should avoid the use of foul, racist, sexist, abusive language, and refrain from making any obscene gestures.
-
Guests should refrain from any display of inappropriate affection in a public setting.
-
Only authorized individuals may enter the ice surface and other restricted areas, and guests must refrain from entering such areas without proper authorization.
-
Guests should follow all local, state, or federal laws and will follow the instructions of event staff.
